Some people put celery in it, which is sick and wrong and, I’m reasonably certain, against God’s will. But I love it when it’s carrot, apples and raisins.
I voted that it’s not terrible, but not my thing. It probably didn’t help that I didn’t know all of the ingredients beforehand, and was expecting it to taste a little more like my favorite Indian dessert.
This is heading into Waldorf salad territory.
“Celery! Apples! Walnuts! Grapes!”
Yes, the poll could have used an “Oh my God, people eat that??” option to be harsher than simply never having heard of it. I was happier in my ignorance, and now that blissful innocence has been taken from me.
I never understood its inclusion there either except as a Sesame Street tie-in: “One of these things is not like the other…”. (And the answer is celery- the common bond being the others are good.)
I’ll eat carrot salad occasionally at pot lucks. It’s not something I’d order at a restaurant.
Love it! I am a sucker for anything with raisins in it.
I love it! Now that I don’t go to church anymore I have to go to Lizard’s Thicket to get my carrot salad on. Mmm. Perhaps lunch?
Never heard of it, but it sounds awful. Uck.
It was a frequent part of my birthday dinners as a child, since I got to pick the menu. I love it. Unfortunately, I seem to be the only one in my immediate family who does, so I haven’t had any in years. What’s with apples in it? No! (Although I might try that once.) I also might try WhyNot’s yogurt variation, just to see. But a good carrot-raisin salad? Yummmmm!
