Cars that wave to each other

Hee hee, yep!

Yup, I’m aware of that one. In the UK most Subaru WRX drivers wave at each other, and get a return wave.

Tribalism! Tribalism, pure and simple!

How can we progress from Homo sapiens to Homo nova when automobilists still wave at each other to justify their choices?

I weep for humanity’s future (and, it should go without saying, Renault Dauphineism).

This was always more a country thing and small town thing.

You get more the honking ,yelling and finger in the city. Well people are in race to go no where. And other cars and people walking are trash in their eye.

waves back from my 2013 WRX hatch

I used to have Honda CRXs back in the day, those always got waves from fellow owners. When I drove a BMW for years, I rarely got a wave – maybe from a really similar M3. So it was a joy to get the WRX and realize that Subaru enthusiasts are big into the wave…I wave at pretty much any Subaru with a hood scoop, and wave back at any Subaru at all if they wave first.

Beat me to it, I had a CRX and got the wave all the time. I also got waves, usually, when I had my Cherokee.
The Focus and the Legacy, not so much.

I wave if the window is down, but the truth is there are enough on the road that I just don’t wave to everyone the rest of the time. But I also have stock exhaust.

I had a Smart when they were first introduced to the UK. We’d wave and/or flash headlights at each other. Not sure if they still do it. Now that I’m a BMW driver I’m not allowed to make any signals of any sort.

When I drove a Karmann-Ghia in High School, the other Karmann-Ghia in Raleigh and I would wave at each other. In the rare occasion I see one now, I get a slight pang of regret that I’m no longer in the club. But then I remember that I have A/C now.

There’s another red Routan that lives nearby. We wave at each other.

I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 40 years now, and I didn’t realize the wave meant 2 wheels. I always just raise my hand a little off the bars because you can wear your arm out on a typical Saturday cruise. I’ve thought about inventing a solenoid activated waver- a little hand that pops out at the push of a button.

I wave at other old Corollas (mine’s a 96, but the body style looks basically the same all through the 90’s). I just get baffled looks back.

Honestly, one of the main reasons why I bought a Jeep was for the “Jeep Wave.”

Shortly after I got mine I was talking to a buddy about the Jeep Wave. He said he didn’t know about it until he had to pick up boss’s Jeep one time:

“So I’m driving along and this hot chick waves at me. I thought ‘Awright!’ and then later on some DUDE waved at me and I was like ‘Waaait a minute…there’s something going on here.’”

Heh, a lot of truth to this. While I like the Panamera and Cayennes it’s typically just the classics and well maintained that get ‘the lift’, especially if I see something identifying that we go to the same tracks.

I went through the same thought process when I first drove my Wrangler.

They changed the design in (model year?) 1995, so about half the 90s had different designs. The difference is most noticeable from the back; the earlier one screams “90s” more than the later one.

So if I cruise by in a 914 I should probably just duck under the dash?

Any purist is in.

I have a Toyota Solara convertible, which is not exotic or rare but is somewhat distinctive. I ride with the top down as much as weather permits. When I pass another one with the top down I wave but I find most people are mystified as to why I am waving. I never get a wave back.

LOL, it does indeed get a little tedious.

I had forgotten. - VW Cabriolets wave at each other, too.
