Cars that you used to see everywhere, but now have disappeared from the roads, part II

Funny that this thread just became active again today. An article titled “5 Cars You Never See on the Road Anymore” just appeared on my Facebook newsfeed this morning, and it made me think of this thread.

Some of the cars they listed were:

  • Dodge Shadow/Plymouth Sundance
  • Honda Prelude
  • 2000-08 Jaguar S-Type

And I forgot the other two and I don’t have the story in front of me anymore.

ford probes … around here they were tagged as “drug dealer cars” and yes i know a couple different people in said enterprises bought them but everyone else i know who bought one complained about getting stopped once a week or more either by the lapd chp or la county sheriffs or some combo of the 3 that they traded them in even if they lost money on the deal …

1999-2002 Mercury Cougars. I was in front of one the other day and the sculpted headlights gave it away. Wikipedia says they made over 175k.

The first “new Beetle”, the one before VW squashed the roof down. They weren’t common, but different enough to be very visible. Now I can’t think of the last time I saw one.

The Pontiac Aztek. There must have been a few die-hard fans around here that kept them going until a year or so ago.

Any body-on-frame car with a V8 engine. There are a few still around: Lincoln Town Car, Ford Crown Victoria, and Mercury Grand Marquis, but they are going fast.

The little old lady up the street from me has a late 1980s or very early 1990s Crown Vic in her garage. I don’t think it gets driven much anymore, though. There’s another, newer, Crown Vic in a driveway a few blocks away, too. And the old man around the corner had a Grand Marquis until he moved a few months ago.

Yes, I mentioned that there are a few of the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Town Car vehicles still around - but they are going fast.

Since you can identify the few remaining in your area by individual owners, you can see how they will likely be soon gone.

Has anyone mentioned the classic black Lincoln Continentals from the 1960’s that used to dominate every funeral and wedding procession - not to mention sports and political parades?
