cartilage detrioration in knees

The cartilage in my knees has almost totally deteriorated, and I am told that the only option is to have mechanical knee replacements surgically inserted. I don’t want to do this and would like to know is there any progress on a technology for implanting either a laboratory created synthetic cartilage,or recreated or regrown natural cartilage material which can be used instead of the conventional method of artificial knees.

Thank you for any replies.

I’m not a doctor, but I’ve got lousy knees also. The last I looked, it’s been an all-or-nothing venture in terms of replacing knee parts. The original parts don’t mate well with synthetic replacements, so the whole joint is re-done.

You could put out a search for more information.

It would appear that there is partial replacement but your condition may or may not preclude this, your best option is to e-mail a few of of these centres, there are plenty more of them, and if you have your patient records they could perhaps give you another opinion.
