FWIW, Stalling was originally from Kansas City. He came to California to work for his friend who was starting a cartoon studio: Walt Disney.
The Raymond Scott Quintette consisted of six persons (despite the name), and the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra (which performed for both live-action and cartoons) was 30 or 40, maybe more. I don’t think it’s fair to compare the two, since one was a small jazz band and the other a full symphony orchestra.
