Sorry to hear this, that dude made some funny, twisted, awesome cartoons.
That’s a damn shame.
As I said in the Death Pool thread, I recommend his autobiography to anyone wanting to explore the topic of addiction and recovery. And yes, his cartoons rocked.
Damn! I’ve re-read He Won’t Get Far on Foot (which is what I assume **Rilchiam ** was referring to) more times than I can recall. A wonderfully twisted guy. He appeared on an episode of Insomniac, which I hadn’t expected.
I’ll miss him, but I must admit I haven’t seen anything by him in years.
Yeah, for a while I wondered if he might already be dead and I’d missed the announcement.
OTTOMH, I remember two brilliant ones of his:
One in which a dog-owner is horrified by the freakish death of his dog while on a walk in the city; a windowpane had fallen onto it from a multi-story building. A passerby said, “How much is that window in the doggie?”
An African-American street person is begging for change, wearing dark shades and a sign that reads “Black and blind, but not musical”.
One of my favorites by him:

Huge bummer. He was brilliant, and I’ll never forget seeing this one for the first time:
Absolutely insanely twisted, but some of the funniest cartoons I’ve ever read.
RIP, Callahan.
Sick, twisted, deeply funny cartoonist. When I first got out of college, he defined my roommate’s and my sense of humor. I will miss him. RIP indeed.
Ah, yes, I remember Digesting the Child Within!
I loved him because nothing was sacred. I remember his 60 Minutes interview-they showed a little film strip of How much is that window in the doggie?
I laughed for 5 minutes.
The one I most remember, though not twisted in his usual style, was the guy giving his dog a command to “Get Down”, so the dog puts on funky music and starts dancing.
RIP, Callahan. Your humor will be missed.
Callahan was an alcoholic and often riffed on that . . . One of his most memorable toons was “Santa’s Little Enablers” – a bunch of pained-looking elves bottle-brigading booze to a snockered Santa.
That sucks. Sorry to hear it. I loved his technically terrible, but pitch-perfect comedic drawing style.
