- I have a ton of old casette tapes that I want to record as MP3’s. I want to be able to hook up a line between the tape-player’s headphone jack and the computer’s mic. What software out there can do this?
(I found lots of stuff that would convert CD tracks to MP3’s, but none that would do it from a line in) - MC

Well, I really don’t think this is an opinion question, but as far as I know, you would have to find a way to record the tape into a wav file, then copy it to cd.
I have done this many times. Easy. Don’t use the Mic input. Use the Aux input.
Then use any audio program to create a WAV file. You can use the simplest like SNREC32 which comes with windows, or something a bit more complex which will let you edit and do a lot more things. I like to Use COOL EDIT which is free and does way more than I need. Save the WAV fiels as 44100/2/2 and then you can burn them to a CDrom using the software that comes with the burner.
