HBO did this very interesting, made-for-cable movie, that had H.Phillip Lovecraft as a non-magic-using private eye in a world with lots of magic. Somewhat Cthulu mythos.
I remember a sequel- but cannot remember the title- anyone? Bueller?
I think it was Witch Hunt.
And the sequel was pretty awful. Too bad, because “Cast a Deadly spell” was great fun.
Yep- the movie was Witch Hunt. Dennis Hopper played Lovecraft this time around, instead of Fred Ward. The movie was basically a magical spin on McCarthyism- and was a pale shadow of the first, far superior, movie. Avoid it if at all possible.
