Does a cat blinking twice mean anything?
If he makes a point of cathing your eye, and blinks deliberately at you, it means he (or she) loves you. Or at least is rather fond of you. It’s a sign of affection.
Not every cat will do it, so it’s special when they do.
Oh, yeah, they usually ‘smile’ when they do it. It’s a little hard to describe, because the whole process is so subtle, but you know it when you see it. The cats I’ve known know that humans aren’t so good at body language and make a point of it when they do it.
also depends on how fast they blink. Cats blink twice, three times, and even more every day. It keeps their eyes from drying out.
If a cat blinks slowly and deliberately at you, it is a friendly greeting.
I’m glad to know this - I’ve often thought they were just sizing me up while deciding whether it’s time to attack.
They’re summoning the gods of ancient Egypt to come get you, I think.
Actually, like I’ve read on this board somewhere before, a cat almost always blinks when you hit it on the head with a hammer.
I’ve read, I think in the Desmond Morris books, that the way to greet a cat is to look at it, blink slowly, and then look away. Staring at a cat is a sign of aggression, so I guess looking away defuses tension and states that you’re friendly.
I always blink at my cat to say “I love you.” Seriously.

Someone told me it meant it loved you, too. But how can this be? Do cats even love?
Cats definitely love. I have four of them. Ding and Claude love each other. Ding, Claude, and Kaia love me. Ding loves Dominic. Kaia and Tornado like Ding, but don’t snuggle. Ding is wary of Kaia and Tornado.
When Ding or Claude enter a room where the other one is, the one that was there will get up, go over, sniff noses, headbutt, possibly lick a forehead or something, and then go back to what they were doing. They snuggle all the time. They will lie down with each other and purr.
Ding will come and curl up with her front paws and head on my arm, and her body tucked against my side while I’m in bed. She’ll give a little meow, lick me once or twice, usually bonk heads with me or something, and then just sit there purring, blinking at me periodically. She does similar things with Dominic.
If that isn’t love, I don’t see what it could possibly be.
