Last night Miss Puff, my geriatric kitty cat, decided to leave a nice little present on my white down comforter. Luckily, I was in the room at the time and able to clean it up (if I’d been a little quicker I could have gotten her off the bed in the first place, but I couldn’t quite place the sound) but now there is a slight yellowish stain and a faint scent of freshly-regurgitated kitty kibble.
Is there a cheaper alternative to dry cleaning? Some sort of home remedy? It’s chilly here these days and I’d like to get the comforter back in service ASAP. (Kitty is fine, by the way, but she wants the comforter back on the bed too.)
I had an unfortunate incident with human hork (sorry! TMI!). My son got sick in the middle of the night and didn’t tell us until the next morning. He besplattered a totally unwashable item made of wool fleece. I thought it was a goner for sure, but I made a solution of Oxi-Clean per label directions and sponged repeatedly. It took out the stain and the odor completely. I was really astonished by how well it worked.
I use soda water and a Shop-Vac. If it’s tough to get out, I use a bit of clear dishwashing detergent in the mix, let that sit for a few minutes, and then keep doing the saturate-vacuum-saturate-vacuum until it’s thoroughly rinsed out. Works great on stuff you can’t throw in the washing machine. My cat Lenny gets extremely car sick, so when he barfed and peed in the car, it was the only way to get it out. There’s not even a trace of a stain now.
So far I’ve tried using carpet/upholstery cleaner because it was the only thing I had to hand. I’m not terribly worried about getting the down wet since it was a wet mess anyway (though I am trying to be careful, of course). I may go next door and get some soda water, but I don’t have a shop vac for rinsing. The “gentle soap/dry with a hairdryer” might be best for me. Or could I use soda water and dry with a hairdryer?
