Cat puke and monitors do not mix!

Our sweetest little kitty, who loves to warm herself on the monitor, decided this morning to puke up a nice very wet mass on the back of the monitor.

MrsTuffPaws said the screen went really big, then really small, then black. She turned of the monitor as soon as she could.

After a day of drying, alas, my nice 19 inch monitor is dead. No picture when on, but thankfully, no smoke. If the cat caused the monitor to catch on fire, I think I would have beat the flames out with little kitty.

So fellow dopers, can anyone point me into a cheap and useable flat panel replacement? I want to stay away from CRT if my wallet can handle it, and to keep the precious kitty from gaining another vantage point to launch a puke attack. Something in the 17’’ range.

No recommendations, but my monitor has been the victim of the cat crime. Fortunately, it survived. After that, I put stuff on top of my monitor so the cat couldn’t sleep there.

Chances are good to excellent it’s salvageable, if you’re brave enough to open it up and check the fuse. If you’re lucky, kitty’s puke caused a short which blew the fuse.

QED,

Thanks, I think I will give it a try. I have it unplugged so the cap will discharge in a couple of days. Don’t want to send myself flying across the room you know.

I’ve had cats for about 26 years, altogether, and have found that cat puke doesn’t mix well with ANYTHING.

Spraying Windex places usually works (it saved my mouse and my keyboard). It might be that the puke is blocking some contacts, in that case Windex will dissolve it.

I learned cat urine is highly corrosive when Leo the cat marked my moniter. It leaked onto one of the moniter control switches causing the switch to crap out. I was unable to find another switch so I soldered in a couple of wires and ran them through a hole in the bottom of the moniter. On the rare occasion that moniter needs adjustment, I just touch the ends of the wires together.

::shakes head::

I hate cats…so much…
