Cat Repellents for stereo speakers.

So I bought a set of speakers and I want to avoid turning the front of them into scratching posts/screens.

I looked at a web site that sells an aerosol that seems it will do the trick. The BIG negative is that they work for 12-24 hours. I am not interested in a daily routine of spraying the speakers before I leave the house.

Any longer term solutions/suggestions?

Can you elevate them? Are they wall mountable? We have to elevate our plants because we have a little beast who loves to munch at night then puke all over in the morning.

I have not had any luck with the sprays not at all. Perhaps a squirt gun for the first day or two that you put them in.

Unfortunately, no. They’re decent size floor speakers. (and I have the same problem with a particular grass type plant)

You could maybe try putting one of these in front of each speaker. You can see it in action on youtube and it seems like it’d be effective. Here’s one.

I may have to buy a couple cans of this and just randomly move them around the house for the comedy value. Mean? Maybe, but you don’t know my cat, he deserves it.

I’ve found the best way is to offer your cats better options, like providing scratching posts for them. I have several, of various designs, and my cats prefer them to any make-shifts like furniture, etc.

I’ll second both the comments about spray not working and that omgzebras solution looks effective if maybe a little pricey.

I tried the spray on our Christmas tree this year. I chased the cat out of the tree before the spray was dry. I believe the active ingredient is catnip.

I’ve had some success with orange peel. Rub an orange peel on the speaker parts you think the cat would like to scratch.

I have learned that a great cat repellant is double stick tape. They tend to brush up against items before scratching them, so when they get a little hair pull, they move on.

This worked on a lot of my furniture when we were training our cats.

Play some Yoko Ono and glare threateningly at the cat. “I did it to her, and I’ll do it to you.”
