Cat saves small boy from dog

Combining what I’ve read in several versions: The dog is in custody(observation) and will most likely be put down in 10 days. It escaped when the neighbor was backing a car out of the garage.

From here.

Ya think?

I don’t think it’s right to kill the dog. It doesn’t like kids. Instinct? Maybe it’s been abused by kids in the past? The owners should be held responsible and made to take precautions against the dog getting loose again.

Any dog that would attack a human like that is a threat to everyone including the owner/family.
And if it does get loose again?

ETA: Watch the video again. The dog spotted the child by looking under the car, slowly approached the child and attacked from the blind side.
The dog was also starting to drag the child when Ninja Cat came sailing in.

The dog will be executed.

It’s all over the news here in Melbourne, Australia too.

Perusing the comments section of this blog: World's Most Awesome Cat Rescues Little Boy From Dog Attack I couldn’t help but think that the commentor Diosabellissima may be our Diosabellissima.

She does live in Bakersfield where this happened.

And its execution is part of the process of the domestication of dogs since forever. Got a mean one? You kill it.

Labs have had most of the aggression bred out of them. Chows not so much, and in the 1970s that font of wisdom, The Book of Lists, listed them as the breed most likely to bite you. Note that this was the same book that listed Cardiff, Wales as the worst vacation destination, so it must be true.

Mah jaw did drop after seeing that on the news tonite. Knowing the little boy turned out okay can I just go ahead and characterize the rest of the video as a freakin’ pussy riot? Go kitty! That was freaking awesome.

OMG that dog didn’t just bite, it was violently shaking the poor kid!
And the cat was sprinting after him. What a brave little hero!

I completely disagree. The owner knew his dog didn’t like bicycles and/or kids, yet chose to have this dog in a neighbourhood with both (that was Irresponsible Dog Owner Action One), and allowed the dog to escape to attack a kid (Irresponsible Dog Owner Action Two). i understand it could be difficult to live someplace with no kids, but in that case, you make quadruple-damned sure your dog never escapes. The laissez-faire attitude towards other people’s safety as demonstrated by this dog owner is typical of the worst kind of dog owners.

So…what? Take the dog to a counsellor so it can get to the bottom of its emotional issues? Gimme a fucken break. :dubious:

There’s no such thing as a guaranteed certainty that this (or any other dog) will never get loose again. Just not possible.

Dog goes to heaven…cat gets to do the Punch of Victory!

Watch the first part of the video where it switches to the view from behind the van where the dog is just noticing the boy and his ears perk up. The dog was reacting to a small quickly moving creature–the boy on the bike–and his prey instinct took over. He was doing what dogs do and he doesn’t deserve to die for it. His owners, on the other hand, should perhaps be put to sleep because they clearly don’t know how to contain their dog.

Also that cat is so awesome. It was like the honey badger, it just didn’t give a shit.

I’m a dog person, and I have to say, good on the cat. Dog owner should have been more vigilant. I fucking can’t stand off-leash dogs in my environment (the city). I could understand it in rural locations and similar. But as the owner of a dog, it drives me nuts when I encounter off-leash dogs while walking my dog.

Yes he does. Any dog that attacks ANYBODY gets the death penalty in my book. If his prey instinct is so strong, then he needs to be euthanased. He may not ‘deserve’ it given that deserving and culpability etc are human concepts that we apply to other humans, not dogs. But that dog is a danger…and like other dangers we try to eliminate them. With dogs it’s simple…they are killed.

If you’ve got any breaks left to give after what you owe Kambuckta, give me one also. This apologist nonsense gets trotted out every damn time, and what you’re saying, while you seem to think it some kind of excuse, is actually totally damning.

You are talking about something that attempts to get out of its owners control and then - as you admit - by its very design attacks young children. That is, as you seem surprisingly keen to admit, what it does.

And you think this thing should be preserved?

If it was some sort of killer drone that had exactly the same characteristics you’d think the very idea that it should be permitted to remain operational was absolutely stone cold crazy.

Yet for some reason with a surpising amount of people, if it’s a dog it should get a pass.

I am confident that after the imminent precautions are taken this dog will not be getting loose again.

I am the usually the first one to defend a dog from death just because some human was stupid, and I think breed bans are a mistake.

But not this time. The kid wasn’t moving fast, wasn’t running or screaming, wasn’t teasing the dog. There was no fear here, no barking as a warning. This was a silent, deliberate, and potentially deadly attack and there are too many sweet gentle dogs in the world (and on death row in shelters) to allow this sort of behavior. I’m sorry for everyone involved, even the dog, but he needs to be euthanized for his welfare and everyone’s safety.

Oh, and GO CAT!!!

We’re only getting one side of this debate. If there were any dogs posting here they’d be talking about the hero that rushed in to rescue the bicycle that was being mauled by that little boy, and really the cat should be killed for its unprovoked attack.

There’s gotta be a subreddit like that, right?
