Cat spraying inside house

I have 2 indoor cats, a 5 year old male & a 3 year old female (in add’n to a bunch of other pets). They get along great, but lately our male cat has been spraying inside the house. He’s never done this before & we think it’s because there is another cat (I think it’s someone’s pet, but could be a stray) who has been coming into our yard.

Last night the visiting cat sat on our garden wall & made weird sounds, as our cats sat on the window sill inside & made weird sounds back. We went outside and the other cat ran away, but I think he came back around 2-3am, because we heard our cats making the weird cat calls in the middle of the night.

Don’t mind the other cat coming around, but it seems to cause my cat to spray inside the house and it STINKS! Any ideas on how to fix this problem? My cat was neutered as a kitten and to my knowledge has never sprayed before. Now he’s doing it everywhere :frowning:

Any way you could put him in a room where he wouldn’t be able to hear the outside cat? Like if the cat comes into the back yard, close your cat into a front room at night? Or put some kind of white noise maker to drown out some of the outdoor yowling?

Can you catch him when he is doing the spraying and maybe quietly shoot him with a quick spray of water?

You can get rid of the smell with Nature’s Miracle. I had a similar issue and the outside stranger was spraying on the doormat. Nature’s Miracle got rid of the smell and eventually persuaded the stranger to go away.
