Catastrophic Health Insurance?

Anyone here have any experience with catastrophic health insurance plans?

I’m in my mid 20s and currently have no health insurance whatsoever. I consider myself blessed with a good constitution; I very rarely feel the need to take OTC medicine, have only needed antibiotics once in the last 10 years, and have never been hospitalized for anything. However, I would hate to be in a car wreck or some other trauma and be facing a $100,000+ hospital debt.

Our daughter is about your age and her’s is $45 a month, with a $2500 deducible, IIRC. It’s basically catastrophic, but doctor visits are discounted and for some preventative services, the deductible is waived. There are a zillion on-line sites where you can compare prices and plans. I think it’s a very good idea, neuroman, and once you get it all hooked up, call your mom. She’ll sleep better.
