I’m trying to ID a common caterpillar in my area. It’s a pale greenish-yellow color, it has a black head, and I live in New Jersey. I know that’s not a lot to go by, but I’m trying to narrow down my search to something I can easily Google.

I want to attempt caterpillar keeping again. There’s always some sort of weird caterpillar turning up in the gardens. I’ve tried my hand with parsley catepillars, tabacco hornworms, corn ear worms, etc- some more succesfully than others. Now someone just found a Forest Tent Caterpillar in the strawberries, and I want to know how to take care of it. There’s not much info on the web, as most people are trying to kill the things.
Have you tried the aptly named what’s this caterpillar?
The pictures don’t seem to be working, though, and I can’t find a useful index. Am I missing something?
Yeah, the “this month” pictures on the right hand side of that page seem to be broken, but I’m getting one on the left showing examples of caterpillars of various classes - smooth, bristly, knobbly, etc. That picture is an imagemap you can click on to let you examine caterpillars of those types, and that seems to be working. You can also click the “smooth”, “knobbly”, etc links in the accompanying text. The “album” link is giving me a 404 error. Note that the links in the category specific subpages seem to be javascripted, on the off chance that you’ve turned off javascript.
