Catholic Church and Friends Big Funders of Anti Marriage Equality Campaigns

All my cogent -to me- explanations have been given in various threads here, only a couple of clicks away.

I will even walk away from the “deny rigths” bait. This isn’t an SSM thread.

You’re right in that failing to convince people results in a “loss” in democracy. However, one has to spend time wisely and use it with people who can really be convinced. People in an anonymous MB who have already seen the arguments and participated in many threads about SSM and are still not even remotely trying to figure out wether there’s an option of reconsidering their position are not the target demographic.

Official RCC position on SSM., FYI.

It already is, for 47% of the population of this country. I expect it will be a majority of the people before this time next year.

Soon Ají de Gallina’s troglodyte views will be dumped into the dustbin of history, like the slavers and segregationists and anti-womens-votes chauvinists of the past.

It’s slow sometimes, but democracy in the end moves toward ‘liberty and justice for all’.

So it’s 53% for the troglodytes!!!
“Dumped into the dustbin of history” is one of those phrases that actually mean nothing and can only be appreciated in retrospective. They help you feel nice and righteous.

Which is why we aren’t a pure democracy. The majority does not have the right to persecute and oppress the minority out of bigotry. And bigotry & appeals to bigotry are all that opposition to SSM is based on; it is an perfect an example of pure malice as you are ever likely to see. Which is why the people who oppose it can’t ever come up with a reasonable, non-bigoted motive to do so, in or out of court.

Dude, you did as much as anyone to make this an SSM thread.

I live in Madison, which as everyone knows, has gays under every bush. So I have a Gaydon detector in my basement. Just can’t be too careful.

For which I apologized.

As an outsider, tradition is the one thing I think a religious institution has going for it. If you get to pick what you want your church to do, then you are picking what you choose to believe should be right.

It’s all a farce, but for a church bending to public will is revealing the Wizard of OZ here.

On the other hand, if a church is doing things which you know/believe to be evil and wrong, and my doesn’t the Catholic Church have a laundry list of such things – anti SSM, opposing women’s ability to obtain birth control – and they use your tithe for such purposes … what should you do? (I’m not including the Catholic Church’s child abuse scandals here because enabling child abuse is not part of official Catholic doctrine, although an argument can certainly made that the Catholic leadership has knowingly done so in the past.)

Walk away from it. It’s not the only church out there if people insist on having one; and it doing such things undercuts both any claim of moral authority it has and the argument that belonging to that church is harmless. At the very least refuse to give them any more money until they reform.

Just found and article that says it all much better than my OP did: 50 Reasons to Boycott the Catholic Church, on Alternet.
