CD to leave someone by

Heres the deal: On my way home from school today, I got to thinking about the best songs to put on a CD to give to someone who leaves you, songs that would make them forever regret that decision. So far I’ve come up with 8. Lets try for 15. After all the votes are in, I’ll round up the best 7 suggestions, and put them on this CD. My choices so far are:

How Does It Feel? by Orgy
Can’t Find A Better Man by ?
How’s It Gonna Be by 3rd Eye Blind
Almost Doesn’t Count by Brandy
Back 2 Good by Matchbox 20
Whatever Track 3 on the Dixie Chicks is called
There Goes My Baby by ?
Hero by Foo Fighters

This isn’t based on any actual event in my life, I’m just making it in case… Anyway, the songs should be late 80’s to 90’s songs… Ones that would cause a deep painful regret.

We are the children of the Eighties. We are not the first “lost generation” nor today’s lost generation; in fact, we think we know just where we stand - or are discovering it as we speak.

“For No One” by The Beatles on the album, Revolver. I know it’s way too early for the late 80’s, but it’s perfect for this sort of thing and after all, aren’t The Beatles timeless?

You’re listening to the wrong stuff, Homer. That’s what C&W is all about!

Anyway, my nomination would be “never Had It So Good”, Mary Chapin Carpenter, because it has the great line:

And when your phone doesn’t ring
Baby that’s me.

Ohh ohh oh! I forgot one! With or Without you, by U2.

BTW I love C&W. Course, I like rap, too. I’m odd. But not No Limit. Thats a sellout bullshit company, right there. Anything with shiny gold lettering, I won’t buy. Gimmie Tupac, Biggie, and Snoop any day. Bone Thugs, baby!

“Where Do You Think You’re Going” - Dire Straits

Thought of another one:

“Already Gone” - The Eagles

Peace on Earth = Purity Of Essence

“Jerk,” by little-known Canadian artist Kim Stockwood. Hilarious lyrics, with the chorus sung in a great Jordanaires style.

Here’s the first verse and chorus:

"Since you’re gone, I feel so much better
'cause I saw how mean you can be
I used to want some explanation
Now all I want is my Patsy Cline CDs

How I’ve waited for the day
When I could finally say

You jerk (you jerk), you are such a jerk
There are other words but they just don’t work . . ."

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
or the Stones version

Goodbye- Hootie and the Blowfish

OfficeGirl’s Cubicle Farm

“Argue for your limitations; sure enough, they’re yours.”

No, no, if you want to use Dylan, it’s got to be “Positively Fourth Street,” the greatest “screw you” song ever.

“I wish that for just one time
you could stand inside my shoes…
You’d know what a DRAG it is to see you.”

What was that Richard Thompson album about the downfall of his marriage to Linda? SHOOT OUT THE LIGHTS? That’s a good one.

Uke

I will write my own for your cd, in the styles of Sam Kinnison, and Alanis Morrissette:

You dumb peice of shit,
didnt know how good y’had it!
Always swallowed, never spit,
Now I wipe you away, like a busted ZIT!

you suck,
y’dumb fuck,
hope you get hit by a truck,
but I dont have that kinda luck!

So, think of me
heartbrokenly
because you see
you were never good enough…for ME!

is it too sappy?

I’d chose the following

Jezebel - The Reverend Horton Heat
Goodbye Goodbye - Oingo Boingo
Drifting - Harry Connick Jr
Crowds - Bauhaus
Good Riddance - Green Day
I’ve Changed My Plea to Guilty - Morrissey

Don’t let the loveless ones sell you a world wrapped in grey.

just a sampling:

Drifting

I see your eyes drifting, drifting
I’m really not that naive
You wear a smile but it’s drifting, drifting
While I wear my heart on my sleeve
I feel your coldness against my skin
I know what follows the autumn wind
And though you say your heart isn’t drifting, drifting
The words simply don’t ring true
You’re drifting and I’m losing you

Don’t let the loveless ones sell you a world wrapped in grey.

I Was Only Kidding (on the “Off the Deep End” CD) by “Weird” Al Yankovic

One More Minute (on the “In 3D” CD) by “Weird” Al Yankovic

It’s bernard, just under new management

Sorry, One More Minute was on “Dare to be Stupid” CD, not “In 3D” CD.

“It ain’t me babe” - Bob Dylan
“Lover’s Cross” - Jim Croce
“I Ain’t the One” - Lynyrd Skynyrd

My suggestion: Halloween, by Dave Matthews. Best damn pissed-off love song I’ve heard. (Preferably a live version…)

And just to nitpick a little, Homer said:

The first song is actually “Blue Monday,” and the second is “Better Man” by Pearl Jam.

If it is Blue Monday we are talking about then it was done by New Order and not Orgy too.

Well, it was originally by New Order, but there was a remake by Orgy. And for a “How could you leave me” CD, the Orgy version works a LOT better, IMO.

Well, blow my socks off and set me running across some coals!

There was a remake of my favorite song and I didn’t know about it! Well, that is just plain nifty.

My thanks Falcon I’ll have to go and look that up.
