CDR buyer's guide?

Before I start the next wave of backups and (legal) music burning, I’d like to make sure that the discs I’m burning to are high quality and long lasting. However, having just tried several permutations of CDR buyer’s guide/comparison/etc, I haven’t found anything remotely resembling objective information. There’s a dizzying array of brand names, some well known, some not (to me), and a host of manufacture-supplied claims. I also can’t seem to tell if a so-called “music” CDR differs in any way save price.

Oh, by the way, I thought to post this in GQ rather than IMHO in hopes that someone can point to some sort of reputable buyer’s guide–if I’m wrong, I’ll know where to look.
Thanks,

Rhythm

As far as brand comparisons, etc. I have no info, but the “Music” CDs are slightly different in that a portion of the price goes toward paying royalties to musicians/composers/etc.

There is some kind of secret code embedded in the disc that will allow them to record on a “standalone” music CD recorder. Most, if not all, computer CD writers do not check for or care about this code.

ah ha… just found a Cite to FBG’s post.

I was recommended Taiyo Yuden brand discs. Google it and you’ll find places selling them online.
