CDR's and Playstation Games

Does anyone know of a good program for copying a playstation game onto a CDR? I was using nero, and that worked, but I had only a trial copy and it ran out. I’m looking for a program that hopefully I can download off the net, hopefully for free.

Don’t worry, the only games I copy are ones I already own. I have a problem keeping my cd’s from getting scratched, so I buy a game, make a copy, and when the copy gets scratched I make another.

PSX copy 6.0 ?

“Don’t worry, the only games I copy are ones I already own.”

HaHaHa, good one!
Yeah, right. (sorry, but it’s really difficult to believe…:))

Did you install the hardware modification to the console to bypass the copyprotection on the cd’s?

CDRWIN is a good program for it - although you may find that a lot of the newer games have inbuilt copy protection, which therefore means you’ll have to find the cracks around the net.

Yea, you DO need a MOD chip to be able to play game copies, which, I believe is illegal…?!?

yup…damn right.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there too cheap to pay for good software/games *(which does NOT include myself!) *. I think developers deserve every cent of their money. A lot of work goes into developing, and if we don’t pay for the product then us geeks can say good-bye to good (…and fun!) products!

No useful information here, (don’t even have a playstation) I just wanted to point out that Nero is an unbelivable peice of crap, that seems incapable of making any kind of CD at all. I would suggest replacing it with just about anything. (I’ve had good luck with Adaptec) Followed by some kind of ritual dismemeberment. If a CD had members, it would proably be more satisfying, but you make do with what you have.

“ISO 9001 certification is a licence to kill!”

I don’t know what UM’s talking about- I’ve found Nero to be reliable and feedback from friends who burn PSX stuff found it to be the most reliable, will burn CDs that Adaptec won’t.

Well, on 2 different systems Nero managed to crap out at least 2 out of 5 cd’s made, though most of those wern’t copies. It also deserves some kind of award for least helpful directions and help files.

It cost me the Shogo mod I was working on, and about 400 megs of assorted game pactches and mods. I’m on a modem here, and it took a looooong time to download all that crap. This made me bitter and hateful. Well, more bitter and hateful, anyway.

Adaptec still hasn’t blown a copy for me, though as I mentioned, I haven’t tried coping any PS games. It’s entirely possible that Nero can skip some of the PS copy protection schemes.

“Whooping.”
“Crane.”

Nope…damn wrong. Sure, it voids the warrantee but you own the playstation and can do with it as you please. Also, copying the games, as long as you own the original and do not distribute the copies, is perfectly legal.

AFAIK, voltaire is correct. You can modify your Playstation as you please. What is illegal however, is reverse-engineering the technology of the Playstation. Therefore, making a mod chip based on information that you obtained by reverse-engineering the system would almost certainly be illegal. But you’re not going to be prosecuted either way, so have a blast

Im pretty sure they don’t like people talking about software piracy here. Doesn’t matter if you own every game in the world.

You should just search the net for ‘copy playstation games’

I’m sure “they” can decide what “they” don’t want people talking about. You may want to try http://www.pker.com for reviews of other software.

and UM said:

That I will agree with. With older versions of Nero it seemed like the English instructions were just the German ones fed through Babelfish.

I disagree. No part of this discussion has condoned anything illegal. For comparison, search for “prostitution” and see how many discussions we have had on this (generally) illegal matter, complete with advice on how to locate prostitutes over the internet.

The bottom line is that this is all firmly entrenched in the gray area of the law. No one is doing anything that would necessitate intervention by “them”.

Try here for advice on this:

FWIW, modifying the PSX is not illegal. Copying the games is not illegal either as long as you own the original, and as long as you don’t distribute the copied version (for free or for profit).

As for the OP, try CDRWin.

I’m not so sure mods like this are legal anymore – after all, according to the Millenium Copyright Act, deliberately circumventing any security technology at all on a copyrighted material without the copyright owner’s permission is illegal. Hence the suit against the DeCSS guy who wrote the DVD decryption program for Linux. Of course, he lives in Finland, so I’m not really sure how they expect American law to apply, but the point is that there’s a really idiotic law out there that makes all descrambling, decrypting, and hacking completely illegal.

Now have some milk and cookies and go to bed, kids. Big Brother says so.

Funny you should mention that. I was waiting for the DeCss decision before deciding what to do with this thread. Sorry, the companies won.

In the interest of being conservative, I’m closing this thread.
