Thanks to your column my dad is looking to buy his first computer. I’ve tried to interest him in the wonders of computers for years and on his last visit [a few days ago] I finally got him in front of mine. After a few minutes he got bored so I logged on to the net. He thought it was interesting but was quickly losing interest and then it occurred to me - STRAIGHT DOPE! I logged on and he spent the rest of the evening reading every archived article. He must have read every article out loud to me.
I called home yesterday and my brother told me that dad is talking about the internet and your column. Dad thinks your the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Hope this doesn’t go right to your head, but thanks for helping my dad get into the 20th century.

And now you know what to get for Father’s day, birthdays, and any other gift-giving occasions…Straight Dope books! There are even more of Cecil’s gems in the books. Ones that are not in the archives. A Straight Dope book is always an appropriate gift, as the size is always right.

We aims to please. Well, not really, but nobody’s ever going to say I can’t accept a compliment graciously.

How about one of the new Zombie Laptops?
You answered a 15 year old dormant thread just to make a smart ass comment about PC Vs. Mac?

She also bumped a thread from 2000 to comment on PlayStation games. As in PS One.
Perhaps her Internet connection is really slow.
Let’s close this.
