Cecil's Columns #1

There is an extant and scurrilous rumour that Cecil’s Columns do not in fact exist.

Slanderous untruths like this must be eliminated without delay. Please confirm that the front of the Chicago Reader building is supported by 4 fluted columns of the Ironic order of architecture, decorated with scrolls characterising banned posters and topped with putti (or cherubim if you prefer) of the Cecil figure carved at various stages of his boyhood.

Many thanks.

No scrolls, cherubim or columns, fluted or otherwise.

Sure, Virginia. If it makes you feel better.

(You might as well not believe in fairies!)

Though I do believe the most eye-catching thing about the Reader Building is the sign that says “Star of Siam.” Sorry.

It exists; page 5 in this week’s Reader. Sleep well.
