Cedar Point/Sandusky Questions

I am thinking about planning a trip to Cedar Point Park in mid June. I am considering staying at their Castaway Bay resort. I will be travelling with my kids 12 and 6. How many days does it take to do the whole Cedar Point thing? I figure a day for the amusement park and a day for the water park. The resort apparently has some sort of indoor water park as well. Is two days enough or should I budget more time? What else is there to do in the area? I know Cleveland shouldn’t be too far away…maybe go to the Rock 'n Roll HOF. Anything else to do? I will have about six days that I could spend in the area.

You’re going to my favorite place!

It’s hard to say how long it takes to do the whole thing, because so much of it depends on if you want to do the big rollercoasters with hour long waits or if you just want to ride the scrambler a million times. You might want to do the park on the first day, and then decide if you want to do the waterpark the second day or spend another day at the park since there’s the waterpark right in the hotel if you decide to stay at Castaway Bay. I think that if you buy the two-day passes, they’re good at the amusement park and at Soak City.

I don’t know what the price differential is between staying in Castaway Bay, Hotel Breakers (another one of the on site hotels), and staying in Sandusky, but I highly reccomend staying on the grounds. It is so easy, and if your kids get tired in the afternoon, they can head back to the hotel, take a quick nap, and head back to the fun.

I went to Cedar Point for the first time when I was 8 and my brother was 6, and we all had a great time. I’ve gone back every year since. Even if you or your kinds aren’t rollercoaster people (and I definitely am), there’s plenty to do.

There are several Lake Erie islands in that immediate area. Go see Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay, and whatever else is out there. (I kinda forget what’s there, myself.)

I agree that you should stay on the grounds. Much more enjoyable, especially with kids. Better make your reservation now, mid-June sell out quick and you can get package deals right now. In late April the packages will be gone for June.

The island are more geared for adults, with drinking being one of the major pastimes. Although we did enjoy the ferry ride and driving around in golf carts.

With kids there is an excellant drive thru animal preserve nearby. African Safari if I recall. They got zebra, giraffes, camels, buffalo, warthogs and deer that come right up to your car! I think there is even a petting zoo next to it where you can get out and feed the deer by hand. But watch out, one baby deer bit my daughter on the butt after she fed it and then turned around.
