I don’t know if Ron Stewart was a celebrity, but he was a player (and later a coach) for the New York Rangers.
The details are sketchy, but he definitely killed Hall of Fame goalie Terry Sawchuk (whether it was in an actual fight or just the result of rough horseplay is unclear).
MrJackboots got it on post #4, and it’s apparantly a matter of some debate as to what the relationship between the two was (friends, dating, exes, etc.)
Vince Neil, occasional lead singer of Motley Crue, was convicted of vehicular manslaughter when he got in a drunk-driving accident that killed his passenger. I think he got 30 days probation.
This may be stretching the definition of “celebrity”, but a number of Norwegian black metal musicians are serving time for murder and other crimes. The most notorious is Varg Vikernes, formerly of the band Mayhem, who was already under indictment for burning several ancient churches when he murdered his guitar player. Stabbed him 23 times, mostly in the back since he had to chase the guy for half a block. (Naturally, Varg claimed self-defense…)
NBA player Jayson Williams of the New Jersey Nets is being retried on a charge of reckless manslaughter in the death of his Limo driver Costas Christofi.
Reports say he was twirling a shotgun when it went off, kiling Christofi.
But we can include him because he was found libel for their deaths in the civil court system.
Author Jesse Hill Ford shot and killed an intruder in his front yard. He was tried for murder, but I can’t remember the verdict. Ironically, he had written a book based on another murder that took place in the same county.
It’s probably true that King Juan Carlos of Spain accidentally killed his brother, when they were both teenagers.
Also there’s something at the back of my mind about some other current monarch, who was involved in a very similar incident as a young man, but I can’t recall it now.
Grover Cleveland was the Sheriff of Erie County (Buffalo), New York early in his political career. He was responsible for executions and didn’t feel he should delegate the job so he personally hung two condemned men.
Nope, I thought of him, but it wasn’t what I was thinking of. I did remember my original thought … the King of Thailand. It turns out it’s considerably less likely in that case that it was the current King did the deed, though.
