Come on, the jury’s still out on Phil Spector. Not so on someone who has worked with him, drummer Jim Gordon.
He was tried and acquitted, and AFAIK no one really thinks he did it.
Lana Turner was believed by some to have stabbed her boyfriend, Johnny Stompanato, even though her daughter was the one blamed and it was ruled a justifiable homicide.
Claudine Longet, French singer and ex-wife of Andy Williams, killed her ski-instructor lover “Spider Sabich”, but it was ruled negligent homicide and she only got 30 days in jail.
Anne Perry, who writes popular murder mysteries, was convicted of helping a friend bludgeon the friend’s mother to death when the girls were both minors.
He was believed to have committed murder, which I admit will make for a very loose list.
Clark Gable was believed to have struck and killed a pedestrian while driving drunk. Again, that doesn’t look likely.
John Wilkes Booth was pretty well known even before he shot Lincoln.
Well, if lurid rumor is allowed, Albert Goldman’s scurrilous John Lennon biography (which I have not actually read) apparently claims that Lennon killed a sailor in Hamburg, and was directly responsible for Stu Sutcliffe’s death as well.
