GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) — Tibor Rubin, a Hungarian-born concentration camp survivor who joined the U.S. Army out of gratitude for his liberators, fought heroically in Korea and received the Medal of Honor 55 years later, has died in California.
Rubin died of natural causes Saturday in Garden Grove, his nephew, Robert Huntly, told the Los Angeles Times (Tibor Rubin dies at 86; Holocaust survivor received Medal of Honor for Korean War heroism ). He was 86.
Karen Montgomery, who forged her way in the television industry as an actress and producer, died on Friday after battling breast cancer for some time, according to a report.
She was 66.
Montgomery’s most notable on-screen role was as Princess Beata in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Hall of Famer Dolph Schayes, a 12-time All-Star who refined the big man’s role in the infancy of the National Basketball Association, has died. He was 87.
Schayes was diagnosed with terminal cancer six months ago and died Thursday after being stricken with a severe infection, his son Danny Schayes said.
Barry Schweid, an Associated Press diplomatic correspondent who reported from dozens of countries over a career spanning 56 years, died Dec. 10 at his home in Washington. He was 83.
The cause was complications from a degenerative neurological condition, the wire service reported.
John Williams, a versatile sixth man for the Cleveland Cavaliers who briefly earned more than Michael Jordan after renegotiating a contract during the summer of 1990, helping to establish the modern era of free agency and huge salaries, died on Friday in Baton Rouge, La. He was 53.
His agent, Mark Bartelstein, said the cause was colon cancer.
