I met Vera Lynn when i worked at a country house hotel in the English Lakes District in the early 1990s.
She and her husband stayed for a few nights, and it was one of those places with sitting rooms and open fires, where the bar staff like me often got a chance to chat with the guests. They were both incredibly nice.
I was a keen photographer with a decent camera system, and the hotel manager dragooned me to take a picture of him with Vera and Harry, which then graced his office wall. I still have the Kodachrome slides somewhere in storage back in Australia.

“Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” was a great book. And, while I doubt his CIA assassin claim, it was presented so as to be plausible.
I loved Chuck. He was delightfully weird, and I’ll miss him.
