Celebrity Death Pool 2018

John Young has left orbit.

Jerry van Dyke is gone at 86.

My theme for 2017 was “people who have visited the moon without landing on it.” Only eleven people fit my theme and Young was one of them. Couldn’t have died one week sooner.

Uh…Randy…John Young was commander of Apollo 16 and DID walk on the moon…

Ray Thomas, cofounding member of the Moody Blues, has died at the age of 76.

He was one of the 12 who did. And now only five are left: Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, David Scott, Charlie Duke, and Harrison Schmitt.

He’s traveling eternity road, then.

What will you find there, Ray?

With Buzz being the only one who decked a lunar conspiracy guy.

I once had an astronaut/cosmonaut theme. Folks who had landed on the moon, or had first achievements, like first woman in space, first EVA.

Missed opportunities indeed.

I’d like “Guys who beat up Lunar Conspirators”, but it would be a short list, and Buzz is too tough to die.

sob

He clocked some dick named Bart Sibrel in Sep 2002.

More, from Bart Sibrel - Wikipedia

“Most astronauts have refused to grant him (Bart Sibrel) interviews. The most infamous incident involved Apollo 11 crew member Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon. According to Aldrin, he was lured to a Beverly Hills, California, hotel on September 9, 2002, under the pretext of an interview on space for a Japanese children’s television show. As he was leaving the hotel, Sibrel was there demanding that he swear an oath on a Bible that he had walked on the Moon.

When Aldrin refused, Sibrel followed him and repeatedly called him “a coward, and a liar, and a thief”. Aldrin finally punched Sibrel in the jaw, while being recorded. Sibrel later attempted to use the tape to convince police and prosecutors that he was the victim of an assault. However, it was decided that Aldrin had been provoked and no charges were filed. Many talk shows aired the clip, usually siding with Aldrin’s response. Sibrel said later that he wrote a letter of apology to Aldrin.”

It’s interesting that the first three on the scoreboard are all unique picks.

1st Place!

The funny thing is I made a note of him sometime during the last year and then forgot why. And then I couldn’t find any information on why I noted him. But I took a shot and kept him on my list. He had a long career in the US and Canada but every time I saw him I thought of him as Dutch from Soap.

Anna Mae Hays, first woman promoted to General in the U.S.

Thomas Bopp, astronomer and co-discoverer of the Hale-Bopp comet died at 68. (Only source I can find is the same one Wikipedia has which is a French newspaper.)

Blonde bombshell of the 50s and 60s Greta Thyssen has died at the age of 90. She served as a body double for Marilyn Monroe, took a pie in the face from The Three Stooges, and dated Cary Grant in his LSD days.

Never heard of Greta Thyssen before. She sure was attractive in her day. https://goo.gl/images/Pa1kyh. She was a former Miss Denmark, and she was the leading lady in the final Three Stooges short ever filmed. Three Stooges' final leading lady, Greta Thyssen - nj.com

Sadly, I’m guessing she may have said Me too from back during her casting couch days. I hope not, but I understand it was done often. I hope not.
