I never had the guts to write or email Ellison about his *City on the Edge of Forever Script. * I can’t remember the character’s name, a WWI vet amputee who saves Kirk. He has a begging sign, “I fought at Verdun!”. The battle of Verdun was in 1916, before the United States entered the war. He would have ripped my liver out and eaten it in front of me.
He might have been a member of the Lafayette Escadrille, which formed in 1916 and did participate in the Battle of Verdun. So he would have been *right *to rip out your live and eat it in front of you!
The other excuse us that fighting continued in the general area of Verdun after the USA arrived on the scene.
