BBC says he was born in 1971, and gives his original name. I have a birth date for him of July 28, 1971, but I can’t remember what my source was.
Anyway, assuming the Beeb has it right, he’d be either 47 or 48. The latter agrees with your quote, and also the rule is if there’s a question about a celeb’s age, we go with the older age.
The real question is, is he really dead this time? Much as I’d love to claim the points, I’m all for waiting until his death appears to be a sure thing.

Okay here’s what I’m going to do. I’ll get off work tomorrow sometime mid-afternoon. Assuming that nothing has been heard to the contrary, like a video of him alive with tomorrow’s headlines, I’ll go ahead and award the points for Baghdadi. I’ve actually already worked out the new points and rankings, and, you know what? We will have a new first and second place player.
