Kurt Thomas, first US man to win world gym title, dies at 64

Former NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell has died after being shot twice during a home invasion. He went in his house to get his jacket before taking his girlfriend on a date, and was ambushed and shot. He was 41.

Gymkata!

He did star in Gymkata, but did he ever go to the Olympics?

He did. He was on the team in 1976 but did not win a medal. He won the world championship in 1978. He was favored to win gold in 1980 but couldn’t go because of Carter’s Olympic boycott.

Sheesh. Even in “these troubled times”, I can’t score a point. I think it would be jolly decent of someone on my list to croak, out of consideration for my feelings if nothing else.

I’m Dolores Reborn, and I approve this message.

Bonnie Pointer of the Pointer Sisters Dies at 69.

Many years, I remember a sportscaster interviewing a NFL team representative about the upcoming NFL draft. The Representative opined that they were going to take the best athlete available.

The reporter’s followup question was “So you are going draft Kurt Thomas?”

Having a music radio DJ that is important to your life is probably a thing of the past. I’m not even sure how many people listen to radio stations. One of those that defined my youth died today. Curtis Kay from WDHA FM in North Jersey started at the station in 1980 and I listened to him every since. He had one of those voices that you just loved to listen to and a knowledge of music that made you want to listen. That station was and still is consistently better than any NYC rock station it competed with. A 3 1/2 year battle with lung cancer.

I have mixed feelings about that one. It’s sad he’s died, but just seeing “Mr. Wrestling II” made me smile, as (like Jimmy Carter) I was a big fan as a kid.
