Nobel physicist Jack Steinberger has his final collision, yielding a shower of particles and one point.
He was my first physics prof at Columbia College, long long ago. Not so much a brilliant teacher as a kind and generous man, obvious even via the rather distant perspective of physics lectures.

K.C. Jones, former coach and player for the Boston Celtics, has died at 88.
ETA: in his 9-year career as a player, he won 8 NBA titles. He ranks behind only Bill Russell (11) and Sam Jones (10) for most titles won by a player.
Plus two more titles as a coach. Plus two NCAA championships. Plus an Olympic gold medal: in fact, K.C. Jones is just one of seven players in history to have won an Olympic gold medal, an NCAA championship and an NBA title. And I think he is the only person to do all that AND coach a team to an NBA title.
The guy is truly a basketball legend.
RIP Mr. Jones; you done awesome.
