I Lived with Leslie Fish, a filksinger who did some of the writing for the Comic book series Elf Quest. She’s also published her own science fiction, and has some albums out. If you’re not heavily into SF fandom or the SCA, probably you’ve never heard of her. I rented a room from her for a couple of months, and took care of her cats when she took trips to L.A. She has cats like some people have mice, and she’s trying to breed them for intelligence and manual dexterity. Odd Lady, to say the least.
For most of the 90’s, we lived around the corner from George Chakiris, who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1962 for playing Bernardo in West Side Story. He was a very nice man who we saw often because he would walk his dog around the block.
I lived across our little parking area in an 8-plex from Gibby Haynes of The Butthole Surfers. He was with my friend’s step sister at the time, and I had Thanksgiving dinner with him, as well.
My area (lower Westchester-on-Hudson NY) seems to be crowded with quiet-living notables in search of privacy. Julie Harris and Stan Getz used to live within a mile of my place. (No, they weren’t a couple.) I’ve seen TV newscasters aplenty: Meredith Vieira goes to my gym, and Stone Phillips and Jon Scott ride my train, as well as Money mag maven Jean Chatzky (who is totally hot, I might add).
Henry Kissinger’s mother used to live in my apt building. She’s gone now. (I mean real gone.) We also had fusion-jazz guy Bob James and a retired concertmaster from the NY Philharmonic.
I’m getting in my car now and driving to thePhoenix area, and I will make you tell me where Roger lives. He is one of my huge music crushes (Yes, I am 16 years old, get over it). That guy has some real issues, something I find attractive in a rock-n-roll man.
I know Ricky Steamboat is, thanks to my husband’s love of rassilin’. He and Ric Flair had a famous, long-running feud. So you went to school with David Flair? I hope he wasn’t as much of an ass in real life as his dad seems to be.
My neighborhood borders one of the rich, fancy neighborhoods of San Francisco, the Sea Cliff. Robin Williams and (allegedly) Andre Agassi live a ten minute walk from me. Robin Williams sighting are pretty common around the City.
Danny Glover also live on the other end of Golden Gate Park, in the Haight-Ashbury.
STOP THE THREAD! Years ago, I had a tape of Elfquest songs. It got eaten by my car’s tape deck and I have been looking for another copy for YEARS. Would this lady have had anything to do with this recording and are you still in touch with her?
I have no idea. Just the fact that he was on a soap and had to tell people, was enough to turn me away. I just assumed he was disco it so fit his personality.
The house we lived in for the first few years of my life was a couple of blocks away from Siegfriend and Roy’s mansion. My father said that when he came home from work after the graveyard shift he could hear the tigers roaring.
I dug up her phone# and called her place, she wasn’t in. She might call back.
We see each other at Pagan events and whatnot, so I still know her to talk to. In fact, last time she saw me, she asked me to troll for new roommates for her.
Keep your fingers crossed, something may come of this. Is your email address in your profile?
Yes! I can’t tell you how delighted I would be. There was one song in particular that I just loved - I think it was called Turn Around, and it was Strongbow’s challenge to Winnowill. I acquired my original copy at a SF convention in the Chicago area, possibly from your friend - there were a bunch of filksingers in the Huckster’s Room and I glommed onto this instantly. If you’re able to find a copy for me, I’ll… um. Well, I’ll think of something nice to do in return.
I live one township over from Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown (they live in Mendham, NJ). Bobby keeps the Mendham police “entertained”.
Jim Breuer (Goat Boy & Joe Pesci on SNL) lives in one town over in another direction. Celeste Holm (“Gentlemen’s Agreement”, “All About Eve”) has a family farm in my town.
