Celebrity Suicides

Now that it’s been revealed that the death of Brad Delp, lead singer of Boston, was a suicide, I’m wondering how many other celebs have killed themselves over the years.

Here’s who I can think of so far:

Kurt Cobain
Hunter S. Thompson
Wendy O. Williams
Abbie Hoffman
Marilyn Monroe (maybe)
George Reeves (maybe)

:frowning: April 12, 1989. A sad day. But was he a celeb? or do you jsut mean someone famous? he wa more of a political figure.

Richard Jeni :frowning:

One celebrity suicide that really shook me up was that of Jonathan Brandis. I really liked this young actor, and it was a shock to learn that he had hanged himself at age 27.

Ernest Hemingway
Del Shannon
Frankie Lymon

Spalding Gray

Michael Hutchence
Paul Hester

I was stunned to learn that the affable and seemingly cheerful Dave Garroway had committed suicide. I grew up fantasizing that this guy was my dad. He seemed so stable and sturdy.

Ernest Hemmingway
Margeaux Hemmingway
Virginia Woolfe
Freddie Prinze
Brian Keith (and his step-mother, Peg Entwistle)
Ed Flanders
Doodles Weaver
David Rappaport
Hervé Villechaise

Ray Combs from the family fued.

Vincent Van Gogh shot himself didn’t he?

Richard Farnsworth. He had terminal cancer, and shot himself to end the pain.

David Strickland

Dana Plato

David Strickland, Todd from Sudenly Susan.

[hijack] I don’t know…did Mike intent to kill himself that night or was it just a wank gone wrong?[/hijack]

Were these suicides? That’s how I’m remembering it.

Brandon deWilde (Little Joe on Shane, and the boy who got Carol Lynley pregnant in Blue Denim)

Nick Adams (“Johnny Yuma was a rebel, he roamed through the west”)

Auntie Pam, I’m pretty sure that Brandon de Wilde died in a car crash. I don’t think it was a suicide. I had a big crush on him when I was a teenager. He was like James Dean without the sneer.

Sigmund Freud (assisted suicide)
Charlotte Perkins Gilman (if you read The Yellow Wallpaper, you’d know why)
Primo Levi
Sylvia Plath

Oh yes, if we’re counting Hutchence, add Truman Capote to the list.

Are we counting accidental suicides? 'Cuz there’s a fair number of drug overdoses that come to mind.

Ian Curtis. And he always seemed so happy.

Pete Duel, who among other things, was one of the stars of the TV show “Alias Smith and Jones”.

Richard Webb (“Captain Midnight” aka “Jet Jackson”) who was probably best remembered as Ben Finney (stationed in the ion pod) in the “Star Trek” episode “Court Martial”.

Tommy Boyce (of the songwritng / performing team Boyce and Hart)

Danny Rapp (of the “Let’s Go To The Hop” group - Danny and the Juniors).
