Celebrity Watch Party - A New Low

Did anyone tune in to this last night? I watched about 20 minutes and could not believe what I was seeing.

There is apparently nothing left for the networks to air, so FOX decided we would like to see celebrities “quarantined” (their quarantine is a bit different from ours) in their homes watching TV. They showed highlights of shows - Masked Singer, Disney’s elephant show and Indiana Jones, etc. and we, the viewing audience, were able to see the stars make comments and see their reactions. It was horrible. Some were kicking back on their couches in loungewear, others were fully dressed in star-like clothing and makeup. Ozzy Osbourne and his family were in their fancy home theatre with a multitude of dogs. He was sporting a derby hat and had an Ozzy ventriloquist dummy sitting with him. Tyra Banks and her mom were propped up in a bed wearing lots of makeup, Steve Wozniak and his wife looked like us common folk in their recliners wearing jeans so did Rob Lowe and his sons. I guess as usual Ozzy was a bit entertaining. The rest was pretty blah.

I thought this was going to be them talking about their wristwatches. What you describe sounds even more tedious.

I’d expect Fox to promote a Celebrity Suicide Watch show. Maybe with viewer preference votes: SHOT OR NOT?

FOX seems to have a good track record gathering (and funding) talent for some good, creative productions which are slickly produced and brought on-board for broadcast.
( We wouldn’t have The Simpsons without FOX)
The things that FOX themselves have to put together on the fly seem to be poorly thought out but executed anyway. They have the kind of creativity that would put a smoking lounge on the Hindenburg but would be clueless as to why it blew up in their faces. Still, they would have pulled top dollar from Philip-Morris for ad placement and the explosion would be top notch in terms of special effects.
(Yes, they may be good at reality TV… but I honestly hate all reality TV. If it is an art form, then somebody is not suffering nearly enough for their art.)

I’d watch it.

Hell, half the reason I’m still watching talk shows is because I’m curious about their homes. The show discussed in the OP sounds like it does away with the illusion of watching a “talk show” and goes straight for the voyeurism.

A new low? Are you aware of the British TV program Gogglebox? It’s been running since 2013. It consists of watching ordinary people as they watch TV and comment on the programs. Apparently Celebrity Watch Party is a spin-off of it.

I’ve seen clips of Gogglebox (that is, I saw clips that John Oliver presented on Last Week Tonight) and I see a potential difference if the ordinary citizens are giving their honest reactions versus celebrities who might feel the need to be “on” and entertaining for their audience.

Reaction videos are a huge thing on Youtube. The appeal entirely eludes me.
