Met a lovely woman the other day. When she spoke, her voice/accent sounded like a dead ringer for Celine Dion.
Now I regard Celine as my favourite singer of all time, and her character displayed in various interviews is above reproach. To my surprise, I find out that this woman emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada several years ago. Definitely not French-Canadian.
Now I’m a Dutch immigrant myself, but I did not see this coming. Can anyone explain this. Are there different accents of English speech in the Netherlands comparable to the regional accents of England for example?
