I’ve had Straight Talk for phone service for about 3 years and have been very, very happy with it.
I bought a new phone and after a month decided I don’t like it. So I was just going to switch back to my old phone. But when I tried the system wouldn’t let me. So I had to call customer service.
Could barely hear him because all I could hear was all the clatter from the other reps in the call center.
Simple story. Hate new phone, want to switch back to the old one. It takes him 10 minutes to explain why the system won’t let me switch back. Then he spends another 10 minutes arguing with me that my old phone isn’t a Straight Talk phone.
It most certainly is.
Then he argues that the SIM card in my current phone isn’t a straight talk SIM card. I’ve never touched the SIM card and used the phone right out of the box (the box that said “Straight Talk” on it from Walmart!).
So he tells me he has to send me a new card for my old phone.
I hear him typing away on his computer. I’m like, what’s going on? He says he needs to type a report on the situation. I told him to type later. Take my info now and mail me the new SIM card. Oh, no. Can’t do that.
It takes him 17 minutes of typing! WTF is the big deal. “Customer wants to transfer service back to old phone. Needs new card to do so”. I’m on the phone with this guy for 41 minutes total. I’d of hung up 10 seconds in but I want my old phone to work. So while I was on the phone with him I’ve been typing this thread. And you’ve been reading this. How’s that for mundane and pointless?
I just read some complaints about straight talk on the consumer affairs.com site. WHEW! You have plenty of company. Good luck with your problem. I use them as well and will be changing because the plan is annoying. The phone is fine for what it is, but I need to upgrade.
I like the plan. I use the “All you need” plan. Basically unlimited internet and text and 25 hours of phone calls which is about 15 more than I use every month. And no roaming. I had service in San Juan for cripes sake.
But what was this clod typing? Should have taken him 30 seconds.
I would be happy with that. The “All You Need” plan I used had no internet connection. The “unlimited” plan is not. It slows down after an unknown amount of usage and doesn’t allow access to some things at all. Right now the keyboard is jiggidi slow…fun…fun…almost nonfunctional.
an acquaintance of mine had Straight Talk, and when the piece of junk $5 Android phone he had started to die, I offered him one of my older phones. We put in the IMEI to the “can I use my existing phone” page on Straight Talk’s website, and it said yes. When he called to activate it, they said he couldn’t use it because reasons. a bit later, I said we could try another previous phone of mine (yes, I have more than one; I don’t want to throw them away if they’re usable. Sue me.) the IMEI checker said this one was good too. So he called to activate it, and the “customer abuse” rep he talked to was just the biggest asshole on the planet. You know how when someone wants to insult you, they use a tone of voice and a manner of speaking which you might use towards a 3-year-old? That’s what this shithead was doing.
Straight Talk is a piece of shit company and I can’t understand why anyone would use them if they have even one other option. My guess is they’re along the lines of payday loan places, buy here, pay here car dealers, and pawn shops in that they prey on people who have no alternative.
Until the weird call I haven’t had any problems. $30 a month for unlimited text & internet and nation wide is pretty good. I just didn’t like the phone I switched to. The service is fine.
