I’m going to be spending about a week in China in the near future, and I’d like to have some sort of cell service there. Last time I lived in China I got an old used cell phone that worked pretty well, but it would be nice to use my regular phone (Motorola Droid on Verizon) if possible. Can I just buy a Chinese SIM and use that in my phone? I know Verizon offers service in China at very high rates, but I’m looking for a cheaper alternative.
Just get a cheap one when you are there. A bottom-of-the-line cell phone should only cost about $15.00, including the sim card and some minutes.
Or just get a local sim and some minutes. It’s cheap.
You can pick up a SIM card in your entry airport at the China Mobile or China Unicom kiosk. Easy as eating dumplings.
The Droid, AFAIK, is a CDMA phone, so you won’t be able to use a SIM card with it.
