UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!
Well, I went back to the Apple store this past weekend and unsuccessfully made my case for another replacement for my faulty iphone 6.
I did, at any rate, leave with a new phone: An iPhone 8.
AND I’M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM!!!
Recap of my issue: Randomly/ intermittently when I am speaking with someone they will lose the ability to hear me. I can hear them perfectly (usually saying "hello? Hello?) etc. but on their end… dead silence. Sometimes the call is like that right from the start. Often it happens after 20/ 30 seconds and sometimes there’s no problem at all.
So, apparently, the problem is not with the phone??? Should I change wireless carriers? This is quite important. My wife was in a serious auto accident two weeks ago (she is unhurt) but I could not talk to her. My parents both have precarious health situations… I NEED a working phone!
Help! What would YOU do at this point?
Are you holding the phone to your ear or are you talking on it with the speaker on? Are you accidentally pushing mute? (I don’t have an IPhone but my daughter does)
In my galaxy the mute symbol is not easily accessible.
Hold the phone a few inches from your head while talking.
That’s all I got.
Sorry you’re experiencing this.
Little green robot time?
I’ve wondered about this, sure. But never when I have thought to check has the mute been turned on.
Thanks, though.
Sigh…
This is apparently not rare:

See if any of the suggestions in these replies help.
I’ll give these a serious read but wonder why none of this occurred to the “geniuses” at the Apple store.
Anyhow… thanks so much!
I’ve changed one setting based on a suggestion in one of the discussions. Of course, with an intermittent problem the phone may work fine anyhow. A lot of the suggestions in the other threads involve cleaning dirty, clogged microphones. My iPhone 8 is two days old.
