Right now in Reno, The Who are about to hit the stage. It’s the first show of this leg of the tour, and us Whogeeks are quivering in excitement. One fan won front row tickets, and he’s chosen to text the evening’s events via his cellphone. It’s sorta cool to be able to get the play-by-play, but it’s just wrong, somehow.
First of all, how sad is it that I’m attending this concert via second-had text messages? But, hell, FRONT ROW…shit, if you’re going to be poking that Blackberry all evening, let someone else have the sweet spot! It’s disrespectful of any performer to display such a blatant disregard to their art. If the band isn’t worth your undivided attention, why even bother going?
Perhaps this is my rock concert equivalent of “Hey, you kids, get off of my lawn!”, or maybe the groups today don’t even care if people are paying so little attention?
