Okay, this one should be pretty simple, but searching for it seems to be pretty difficult.
I want to provide internet service to some devices in a very remote area. However, this area has decent cellular service.
So, I figured for what I wanted to do I could stick a laptop with a cell modem in a box and run it as a router. Then, I came to my senses and decided that this was both prone to failure, unnecessarily expensive, and going to violate the TOS of pretty much any cell provider that exists. Since this is for a potential business opportunity, it’s a lot more important than a typical home user if this gets its service yanked.
So, I did some looking and see that there are routers just like you can get for home, but instead of connecting coax from Comcast you slide the PCMCIA card in.
So, that removed the laptop from the equation.
My next problem, then, is not getting nailed on the TOS from Cingular or whomever. Of course, a more heat-resistant router would be nice, too.
If it matters, I’m looking at pushing a constant couple kilobits a MINUTE. So, it’s not like I’m going to be burning up the connection or anything.
