My census envelope says “Under penalty of law”. Does that mean we are required by law
to fill it out? What is the penalty? Deportation to Quebec?

They left out “No he or she is an illegal alien.” They did promise not to share this information with any other agency, that would include immigration.
I hate missleading surveys that don’t allow for your correct answer. You either have to fill in a wrong answer and throw off the whole survey, so that the survey is wrong.

I loved the notice in the mail that said the Cenus was coming soon. How much money did that waste. 33 cents per person plus the printed material. Nice chunk of change down the toilet.

Bricker, thanks for the informative answer. Now, I wonder if they are going to enforce those laws. Do you think the feds are actually going to track down people who don’t fill it out honestly and fine them? Have they ever done that for previous censuses?

I didn’t realize there was a longer form. Mine was really short - 1 page on me, plus extra pages for the 19 other people that might share my home.
The race one I was tempted to write “Celtic” or “human”. And I did think the black, African American, or Negro one was odd.
The issue of reservations aside, there are plenty of American Indians who do not live on reservations, and would thus be counted in the general population. Same as counting the blacks and whites and the Hispanics, they also count the Am Indians.
Isn’t that “single”?
The census is a device to identify all the mallet-headed screwballs in America. If you raise a big stink about your rights, intrusive government or big brother conspiracies, your name goes on a list for tax audits, jury duty and no-knock drug raids. The rest of us just blend in with the herd, like wildebeasts. Don’t forget:

I dont know what Census form you’re looking at because I got the long form and it took 23 minutes to fill out for a household of 3.

I’m putting in 16 hour work days right now. My hot water heater blew out and I had to remove it, soaked half the house. My car is dead. A quarter of a molar fell off. I’m almost to the point of having to take steriod pills for my asthma again. My one friend just got home from kemo. My aunt just had a masectamy this week and now she goes on kemo. My sister in law almost died twice last week. I have no food in the house. I have to have medical tests done on monday and the boss doesn’t want to let me go for them, tough for him. I have to get my bills paid and sent.I NEED TIME! I just finished work and would love a shower,but that would mean driving to my ma’s house at about midnight and waking her up. I have to be up for work in five hours, and I have to work the weekend too. The cenus ranks where in my plans? I’m going to bed. Bye.

I am always sort of amazed at how uptight people get about surveys like this. If you don’t like it lie and be done with it. When you don’t send it in they will send out one of the many people they have hired for the census to ask you in person. If they finaly fine you you will probably have to give out the same information anyway plus $100.
