Theres an Orange Julius in a western suburban mall here in Ohio.
But its cojoined with a Dairy Queen, so theres been a merger.
O.J.'s taste just like creamsicles!
I remember going to a Brigham’s in Winchester, MA (right outside of Boston) around 1983 or so. No idea whether its still there or not. Wasn’t it a kind of ice-creamey place? (I was pretty young at the time).
I can attest to one franchise in Keene NH, at least through the mid-80s, and one in Nashua NH until the very early 90s. The Nashua one finally closed out and became another donut shop, though I don’t remember exactly what the name was.
There’s one alive and well in NJ, about 8 miles north of me on Route 1…
Yeah… I know of one off route 78/22 past Allentown in Pennsylvania.

Rilch,
Carvel is still around and Tad’s still sucks.
I miss the Nedick’s in Penn and Herald Sq.
I do, and you’ve got me wondering. I don’t get downtown much these days, but what I can tell you at this point is that they aren’t in the phonebook, yellow pages, or AddSheet (weekly newsprint coupon publication). Other than that, I’ll have to do an expedition downtown and take a looksee. I never ate there, but used to drink after work at the Deadwood across the street years ago. I’ll get myself down there in the next day or two and report back.
There are Sonic ‘Drive Ins’ here in Colorado. Real Drive-Ins where you eat in your car (remember A&W).
Bob.
Converted to ‘The Hamburger Stand’ here in Colorado. They still sell the Wienerschnitzel hot dogs though.
Bob.
Minnie Pearl Fried Chicken
Kentucky Roast Beef (owned by the Colonel)
Rockybilt (a Denver tradition, White Castle-like)
For the record, Sambo, wasn’t an Indian boy. The theme for the restaurant came from the nursery rhyme (?) ‘Little Black Sambo’.
The board is sure slow tonight.
Bob.
Dijon Warlock - don’t kill yourself getting down there. I worked at the place during the one semester I was at UIowa for whatever the minimum wage was ten years ago. IIRC the address was 5 South Dubuque.
Actually, Sambo is Indian in the original book. “Black” was the way the British referred to the dark-skinned (but non-negriod) Indians. Have a look at the novels of M.M. Kaye or at the writings of Sir Richard Burton. In the U.S. however, the word quickly became attached to a racial stereotype and slur. Why, I don’t know. The same kind of distortion happened to Uncle Tom of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. Read the book – Uncle Tom was no “Uncle Tom”. (that is, he was certainly black, but not subservient and obsequious).
Has Ollie’s Trolley been mentioned? It was a burger place in a little street car. The fries were absolutely terrific, if not a little pricey, as compared to McD’s.
There’s an Ollie’s Trolley in Ballston/Courthouse here in Northern VA. Good burgers and the grease can’t be improved upon.
There’s an Ollie’s Trolley right near where I work, at 14th & ‘L’ streets. In a building, not a streetcar - but by God, their fries are the BEST!
So, umm, Olentzero and False_God, think you good send me some?
I haven’t finished reading this thread but I’m gonna respond now before I forget stuff:

[li]Dog-n-Suds. Had one here in Lansing until a few years ago. I think it’s an A&W now, which we have plenty of also.[/li][li]Shakey’s Pizza. I used to go to Shakey’s when I lived in Japan, for heaven’s sake. First place I ever had shrimp and corn on the same pizza. Hey, it was good![/li][li]Big Boy. Still have a few of them around Michigan.[/li][li]Hardee’s. An abomination of a restaurant. We had one in the small town I lived in near Nashville, TN, with lots more of them in Nashville itself. Horrible food, always cold, always slow even if you were the only one in line.[/li][li]IHOP. We’ve got one here.[/li][li]Sonic. They are all over Tennessee. I wish they’d get up here! I miss their Cherry Limeade and chocolate malts.[/li][/ul]
What’s it worth to you? evil grin
Well, I sure would like some.
If you know what I mean…
Just parenthetically, I thought “Dog ‘n’ Suds” was a highly unappetizing name: who wants (soap)suds anywhere near their food?
or a drunk dog…
