Does anyone undestand this? I’ve tried looking into it, and basically what I’ve got of it is that there are 7(?) spots on the body that harness some sort of power/feeling/emotion. And if you’re dominated by more than one, it’s never good. Dunno _
More experienced ignorance-fighters will be along shortly to inform you, no doubt. But basically: [bias] it’s New Age hooey that originated in Indian mysticism.
Ahem. Chakras are called “energy-” or “consciousness-centres”; each is located in a different part of the body and symbolizes some attribute or other of the psyche. I gather that every now and then you have to align them, much like the tedious process you go through when replacing an inkjet printer cartridge.
The scientific community has taken no notice of chakras or this generic “energy” which is so rarely defined, as New Age practitioners don’t feel pressured to demonstrate a necessary connection between their magical sparkly philosophies and reality. [/bias]
The energy (please insert “allegedly” before all parts of this explanation) involved is called kundalini and normally coils around the root chakra (at the base of the spine). When doing energy work, Hindus and New Agers stimulate the root chakra so that the kundalini rises up through the other 6 chakras. It’s supposed to open your mind to the spiritual world and cleanse your body of negative energy.
If too much energy flows out of your aura, an application of Aura Varnish may be called for.
Should you become too self-conscious, dump several chakras like ballast out the window, looking first, so you don’t hit anyone on the head. Chakras are pointy and can cut passersby.
Chakras can also look like turkey legs, a Motorola cell-phone recharger, or Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle.
That’s the “bottle chakra” and should be avoided like a bad Hollywood urban legend…
The restaurant where I work is called ‘Chakra’ and we corresponded a mixed alcoholic drink for each of the 7 chakras. It’s a lot of fun to order a sampler and take 7 shots. Opens your chakras right up!
Literally, it means ‘wheel.’ There are more than just the chakras in the body, there are supposed to be infinite numbers of them, everywhere. The Hindu religion is full of these ‘wheels’ and they go from the very mundane to the huge wheel that is existance.
Right. Hindus, Hathas and Enochians. Thoe whole opening of the “Third Eye” thing. Though, I think a lot of people view this in too much of a Westernized perspective of spirituality that sandbags it with skepticism. The meditative state of ascension is not too far-fetched of an idea to wrap the discerning mind around. Why should this not be more easily attanable through near core nervous system stimulation? Millions of droning yogis can’t be wrong, LOL…
Chakra Khan, let me rock you

“My Karma needs new Chakras.” --from Car Talk
I simply see it as bio-mystical association- Aligning the “energies” and mystery of life with our own corporal mystery. We do have physiological structures and they do relate sensually with intangible psychologicals and their physical centers i.e.- heartache, pain, sexuality, intuition. In itself, an intuitive and not entirely dismissable natural approach to primal physics and emotion. Our body is our sensory vessel, that which experiences… we experience, we relate to the body with our mind and the entanglement makes a direct experience…it is me, we are it. We try to find a home within ourselves for life’s mystery and build on familiar geography.
