I’m trying to grow some chamomile plants from seed indoors. The seeds sprouted about a week ago so I moved the pot into a sunny window facing west. I’ve heard that the sprouts must be kept from drying out at all costs so I’ve been watering twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. What can I do to ensure the sprouts have the best chance of surviving possible? And how long does it take for the sprouts to become full-fledged plants?
If you water them too much, you’ll kill them. In part it depends on the medium you have planted them in. Too much water will result in root rot or damp-off…a fungal disease that will kill seedlings. These things are pretty hardy…a weed in places…and can survive in disturbed sites (poor soil) and with little water.
