Champagne Cork...

Reading the tread talking about putting a champagne cork back into a opened bottle got me thinking.

How do they put the cork in there in the first place?

Note that the cork does not start out in its wide-thin-wide shape - it starts out as a straight ‘tube’ shape. It is only the pressure and system of corking that gives it its mushroom head and flared bottom.

From here. It’s inserted and wired in place, and the pressure deforms it into the shape you ultimately see.

Yeah, that was going to be my next question, because I figured they had to have gotten the original cork in there somehow. So basically, a champagne bottle is not recorkable by design. Guess I’ll have to get Mrs Shoeless to start drinking more.
