Change in Virginia fire code makes fresh Christmas trees illegal for some

A change in the state’s fire code restricts who can have natural-cut Christmas trees.

They are no longer allowed in high-rise apartments and condominiums unless the buildings have approved sprinkler systems.

If grandma lives in a nursing home, she won’t smell that fresh pine scent. Natural cut trees are banned without exception from institutional and adult care and assisted living facilities, even if they have an approved sprinkler system.

When I gbet a Christmas tree, it’s always a live tree. And now I have a yard so I can plant it instead of giving it to homeowning friends.

Although my libertarian princples oppose such a law on general grounds, it IS a good idea.

I don’t really see the Fire Marshal searching all apartments in a high-rise for trees, though.

Yeah, I’ve been wondering how they plan to enforce this. Are they planning on issuing citations after the fact or what?
