Psst… “Word” isn’t an acronym. There’s no need for the capitals.
It sounds like he might be a little angry with Word right now
Oops, missed the margins-and-ruler issue on preview. IMHO, adjusting margins from the ruler is a very bad idea, especially for a newbie. Although you may not realize it, you’re breaking up the document into multiple continuous sections. Keeping them consistent will be a major headache. Instead, PRR, set margins for the whole document from File - Page Setup and, if you want some of the paragraphs/lines to be narrower, use Format - Paragraph - Indent (notice that paragraphs can be indented from both left and/or right).
This doesn’t help with your formattiong problems, but Word does have quite a few Resume templates. You could always cut and paste your existing resume into the template. It does all the spacing, justification, whatnot for you.
Where would I find one of these templates?
If I understand what you want (Name & address justified at the left margin, phone, email, etc. justified at the right margin, on the same lines), here is a trick to do that.
Type the text as separate lines, all the left margin lines first, then all the right margin lines. Then highlight them all, and format it as two columns. Then you can take the text in the right column and format it as right justified.
I only have access to word 2003, and I can’t remember how to do it in any previous word editions. However, in word 2003 you need to use the taskpane (should be open automaitcally when you start word on the right), go to create a new document (bottom of taskpane). In the middle of teh next task pane you will see a template section, this template is located on your computer. In the window that opens you go to the “other documents” tab. There you see a resume wizard, as well as other resume options.
In Word 2000, résumé templates are found under File>New>Other Documents.
Thanks, all. Finally got a formatted resume typed. (All day’s work.) I wonder what people without Doper friends (or an IT department) do if they’re not technically inclined. This shit’s about as intuitive as Chinese arithmetic.
