I understand that the Soviet Union’s strict opposition to religion softened somewhat during World War II, when it began to use the Russian Orthodox Church to boost patriotism. I am wondering, then, did the Soviet military employ chaplains, either before, during, or after WWII? What about the post-WWII militaries of the traditionally strongly Catholic Warsaw Pact countries, such as Poland and Hungary?
The USSR? Nope.
Poland on the other hand had insignia for both Catholic and Protestant chaplains. This would imply they had some of both.
