Character Actor ID.

Monte Markham.

Liam Sullivan? Did do a guest shot on ST:TOS. Lots of fifties-through-seventies tv appearances as lawyers, doctors, etc.

Nope. Dabbs Greer, Edward Andrews and James Daly are the closest so far. Think maybe the guy did a few westerns too.

Elisha Cook Jr.?

Also was in TOS

Cook is too smallish, although he could certainly do sinister, give his later recurring role in Magnum PI.

Phillip Pine was dark-haired when he showed up on STAR TREK, but went grey while retaining his Somewhat-Amiable-But-Somewhat-Sinister persona; sometimes wore glasses, and looks like he had a slight resemblance to Daly.

Ken Lynch?

Jason Robards?

Hey, you’re talkin’ 'bout Reverend Snow, here. Y’know, Chrissy’s father. Show some respect!

What the hell, I’ll take a guess. John Dehner?

James Karen?

Chad Everett?

Wendell Corey?

So this thread is still alive, eh? Wow! :eek:

I thought of a few more candidates while I was on the plane to Moscow. Phillip Pine was one of them.

The others include:

Richard Denning, “The Governor” on the original Hawaii Five-O;

Dan Dailey, “The Governor” on The Governor and JJ;

Richard Anderson, who was in practically everything before landing the role of Oscar Goldman on The $6 Million Man;

John Crawford, the guy who played Commissioner Farris in “The Galileo Seven.” He was in M:I as well, and was a real prick both times.

Steve Inhat, the guy who played Lord Garth in “Whom Gods Destroy.” He was in M:I as well, and was a real prick both times.

Edmond O’Brien, in the M:I episode “The Counterfeiter,” but probably too old.

One other, out of left field: Jack Cassidy, David’s father.

While I’m at it, Columbo had a distinguished list of guest stars as well. If you’ve already perused the ones of ***TOS ***and M:I, you might as well do that show too.

His opposite number in that episode was Vic Tayback, of ***Alice ***fame.

For some reason, Vic Tayback reminds me of Tige Andrews, also a good candidate.

So is Frank Overton, whom I remember from ***TOS ***and 12 O’Clock High.

Chad Everett is too handsome. Tige Andrews black-haired (my guy is gray-haired). John Dehner is too distinguished. Wendell Corey has the right look, but it’s not him. Ihnat was too young (and, alas, never got not to be). Jack Cassidy, I’d know. Frank Overton I’d know (played Elias Sandoval, right?).

I’m beginning to think that maybe one of my initial parameters was incorrect so we’ve all been fishing in the wrong hole. Anyway, I’ll keep looking. Good idea to check Colombo. Might also give the Invaders series a look. (I’ve already done the old Bixby Hulk.) Just hoping the guys IMDB pic looks like him. Maybe I’m think Trek because he did a TNG part, who knows.

Joe Maross lacks an IMDB profile pic, but (a) he’s a Hey It’s That Guy, and (b) after playing a mobster who got conned on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, he spent the ‘70s showing up whenever you’d expect to see dumb-muscle crooks and a sneerer with a full head of greying hair: HAWAII FIVE-O, THE ROCKFORD FILES, IRONSIDE, CANNON, BANACEK, MANNIX, CHARLIE’S ANGELS, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO — and, heck, even WONDER WOMAN and THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.

And, yes, QUINCY — as, well, an insurance agent! (Granted, no STAR TREK credits; but TWILIGHT ZONE plus THE OUTER LIMITS ain’t bad…)

William Daniels?

No, it’s not Captain Nice. And Joe Maross is a good guess, but it isn’t him either. I remember him from an Invaders ep playing a small town sheriff, I think it was.

It’s not Tim O’Connor, is it?
